Review of 2015

What an amazing 2015 Fighting Back For Jack has had!

The fundraising started at the beginning of the year with Probrand taking on FBFJ as their charity for 2015. They ran events throughout the year, including staff waxing, raffle, continental day, a disco, canal walk and ending with Christmas Carol singing in the Jewellery Quarter in December. The company raised £8099.91 for FBFJ and we can not thank them enough.

Thank you also to Steve Rhodes for also choosing FBFJ as the Captains charity for the year at Windmill Golf club. He raised over £1800 through a variety of events throughout the year.

In April we held a charity football match against the Blues Legends at the Glades. FBFJ put up a brave front, but our team was beaten 6-0. Despite the result a great day was had by all and just over £2000 was raised. Thank you to Tom Ross, the Blues Legends, the staff at the Glades and all the staff at Jaguar Land Rover who supported the event.

On the same day Tony Pearson took part in the London Marathon, managing to complete the course in 4 hours and 55 mins. What a great achievement and thank you for the money you raised.

In July we held our 2nd Annual Golf Day at Fulford Heath. The weather stayed dry for us and congratulations to Volvo for winning the competition. £1830 was raised on the day. Thank you to everyone who took part and to the kitchen staff and everyone at Fulford Heath for their support. It was great to see the Big Red Bus return too.

In September FBFJ held their first ever charity Ball at the Windmill Hotel. It was an amazing night with some superb prizes up for auction. Thank you to everyone who attended, Stacey Paxton-Rhodes for organising the night, Simon Hartland for allowing us to use the Windmill Hotel, Mark Hollis for MCing the night and the Glamaphones and Leo Golden Child for providing entertainment. A staggering £10,000 was raised on the night, which was beyond our wildest dreams.

September also saw our biggest challenge to date completed. Matt Gauder, Matthew Timms, Robert Timms, Samuel Timms, James Williams and Matthew Symonds all took part in the Coast to Coast challenge in Scotland. This was 105 miles of cycling, running and kayaking over 2 days. The boys did amazingly well, raising over £3000. Thank you so much.

In October Wendy Haycock cycled 300 miles from Vietnam to Cambodia. Despite having quite a serious fall, she still continued on with this epic challenge raising over £3600. Thank you very much Wendy for your support.

Also in October saw Samuel Timms and Gary Ginnaw take on the Frankfurt Marathon for FBFJ. Thank you so much for your support and the money raised.

Finally thank you to each and everyone of you for your donations, attendance at events and love and support. You have helped us fight back for Jack. At the end of 2015, our total amount raised for Duchenne Research Breakthrough Fund in the 18 months we had been up and running, stood at over £45,000!

Charity Football Match – 26th April

Fighting Back For Jack are going to be strapping on their boots and taking on Tom Ross’ Birmingham City Legends on Sunday 26th April!

Some members of our team will no doubt require the magic bucket throughout the game and be begging for their half time oranges.  Please come along and lend your support and be our 12th man.

The match is being held at The Glades, Lugtrout Lane, Solihull and kick off is at 11am.

The entrance is £5 a family ( 2 adults + children) or £2 adults.  As always, all money raised will go towards the Duchenne Breakthrough Research Fund.

Also, a big thank you to the Solihull Observer for featuring an article about Jack in today’s paper (16/04/2015).

London Marathon 2015

We are pleased to announce that our friend Tony Pearson will be running the London Marathon on behalf of Fighting Back For Jack this year.

Tony offered to run for us to help raise money and awareness for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign’s Breakthrough Research project.

He needs to raise £1600 and we would all greatly appreciate any donation that you can manage.

FBFJ – 2014 Review

In 2014 we began our campaign to help fund a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and we set ourselves a target of raising £10,000 by September 2015.  In only 8 months we have already raised an incredible £9,416.66!

In this time we have taken part in fun run’s, organised a Golf Day, swam the Great Manchester Swim and completed the Birmingham Half Marathon.

In September we officially became a family fund for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign and our page can be found here.

We never anticipated the support and generosity that we have received. Simply put we couldn’t have done it without you.  Thank you.

2015 promises great things ahead.  We’re playing a football match against the Birmingham City All Stars, we have organised another Golf Day, we’re throwing a Charity Ball and we’re taking part in the Coast To Coast Challenge.  There are also a couple of other things that we’re working on and we hope to announce these in the future.

Again, thank you for your continued support.  For further information on what we’re getting up to, you can visit our Facebook page here or follow us on Twitter here.

Birmingham Color Run

Today, Saturday 16th Aug, FBFJ and The Nest Nursery took part in the first Birmingham Color Run.

For those of you that haven’t heard of this before it involves participants tackling a 5km course while getting splattered with powder paint at every 1km point.  You start off clean and you end up colourful!

As a spectator, something that really jumped out at me was how happy everyone was.  Everyone seemed to be smiling or laughing from beginning to end.  If they do another one next year, you can guarantee that we will be there!

The Nest Nursery set up their own Just Giving page to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign specifically for this event and set a target of £500.  At the time of writing they have raised an absolutely amazing £984.50!!  Again, thank you to the Nest Nursery and everyone who donated.

Below are some before and after photo’s.  For more pictures please visit our Facebook Page

Golf Day at Fulford Heath Golf Club

Yesterday, 17th July, we held our charity Golf event at Fulford Heath Gold Club in Worcestershire.

The weather was absolutely amazing and the turnout was excellent.  We had 16 four-ball teams taking part and we even had a big red London Bus, which was provided by PGS Services.

Although slightly embarrassing, the winning team of the tournament was “The Family Team” with a score of 96!  Congratulations to Paul, Kevin, Bill and Matt on their win!

In addition to the golf tournament we ran two nearest the pin competitions on holes 5 and 11 and a longest drive competition on hole 10.

Nearest The Pin – Hole 5: David Harding
Nearest The Pin – Hole 11: Steve Rhodes
Longest Drive – Hole 10: Ian Taylor

At the end of the day everyone sat down to a 3 course meal followed by the prize giving.

In total we raised an unbelievable £2,422.66p!  A huge thank you to everyone who attended and supported us.  We have been blown away by the generosity and support that we have received and are really pleased with how the day turned out.
